By 1923, issues concerning excessive die wear were resolved, and the Peace dollar was firmly into its third year of production. The Peace dollar, which was designed by Anthony de Francisci and features an image of Miss Liberty on the obverse and a depiction of an American bald eagle perched atop a ledge on the reverse, is a coin that exudes American symbols. In part because of this reason, the Peace dollar is a highly popular coin not just with dedicated numismatists, but also with those that are more novice collectors.
In fact, the Peace dollar is virtually as popular a coin as the Morgan dollar, which preceded the Peace design. The Peace dollar is also widely collected by date and mintmark, and the 1923 silver dollar is indeed an easy acquisition for most collectors, especially given the date’s relatively high mintage numbers.

30,800,000 Peace dollars were struck at the Philadelphia mint in 1923, while 6,811,000 were made at the Denver mint and 19,020,000 were produced in San Francisco. All 1923 Peace dollars are considered common, including those in the lower uncirculated grades. With a silver spot price of $20, expect to pay no more than about $18 to $20 for a low-grade circulated piece. $35 will fetch an uncirculated example of a 1923 Philadelphia silver dollar. The lower-mintage “D” and “S” pieces will require a little more to purchase - $130 for an uncirculated 1923-D and $90 for an 1923-S in the lower Mint State grades.
